Ian Smith gets drunk so he will go to heaven.
The 'Neighbours' legend - who played religious Good Samaritan Harold Bishop in the long-running Australian soap - regularly enjoys a strong tipple as it makes him fall asleep and avoid getting into trouble.
He explained: "Drink was never a big thing for me, but weekends I settle down to a nice wine with Gail, my wife. We enjoy our fizz. What's the old story? If you drink too much you go to sleep, and you can't do any harm if you're asleep, and if you don't do any harm, you go to heaven."
I've got a new pressure cooker, which is great
Meanwhile, the soap veteran - who recently celebrated his 70th birthday - is thoroughly enjoying all aspects of retirement, since leaving the Australian soap earlier this year.
He explained to Britain's Loaded magazine: "I like to stay up late watching movies. I listen to a lot of music. I'm a jazz fiend. I love gypsy violin.
"I've got a new pressure cooker, which is great. I live near a beautiful beach called Elwood Beach where I go power walking in the morning."
