The 43-year-old actress regrets agreeing to let her alter-ego Carla Connor, who she has portrayed for 10 years, wear killer heels and smoke heavily because it's ruined her body.

She explained: "My advice to myself if I was starting 'Corrie' again? Hit the ground running and wear flat shoes.

"Seriously, I'd wear flats, the high heels and cobbles have knackered my feet, I'd give the killer black heels a miss. "And I wouldn't put on a gravely voice either, that's been tough, it's not my real voice."

The brunette beauty is set to bow out of the long-running soap next week when she walks down the aisle to marry restaurant owner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) but it wasn't just the emotions and drama that was hard to film as Alison was also suffering with the physical sides of the wedding.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said: "I'm shattered from filming so I hope it pleases everybody, I don't think we could have put any more into it. It's been emotionally draining. Carla's wedding dress is uncomfortable too, it's been squeezing me in. It's so tight there was lots of shallow breathing, weeks of shallow breathing."

Meanwhile, Alison decided to leave the programme last year but has admitted her exit still hasn't sunk in yet.

She said: "I'm going to miss the people here, I've made a lot of great mates, but I'm tired. I'm going to take a while off and then see what happens. I don't know what I'm going to do next, something completely different, maybe a comedy."
