The cast and crew of Coronation Street have decided to celebrate April Fool’s Day with a brand new vocal performance of the ITV soap’s iconic theme tune, featuring some of the most familiar faces from the Street.

Footage from behind-the-scenes of the filming shows Producer Kate Oates revealing that, for the first time, the opening titles will no longer be purely made up of instrumental music, but live vocals too. Executive Producer Kieran Roberts adds that the decision was made due to the fact there are so many great singers in the cast.

Of course, all that is for show, but that doesn’t make the video or theme tune any less entertaining.

In the clip, we see Faye Brookes, Shayne Ward and Catherine Tyldesley record the theme tune, talking about how excited they are to be a part of the momentous occasion.

The lyrics are as follows: “It’s Coronation Street / Northern friends you’d like to meet / Hotpot, cobbles, murder and vice… / Sometimes not nice (but there’s comedy too…)”.

Coronation Street continues throughout the week, with the REAL theme tune on ITV.
