BBC One soap EastEnders will be bringing Dean Gaffney back to our screens a little later this year, as the actor reprises his role as market trader Robbie Jackson for the first time in seven years.

Speaking to the Radio Times ahead of his first comeback scenes, he teased: “Robbie has come back with a vengeance. I haven’t just come back to order pints in the Vic or cups of tea in the café. He’s straight back on the Square causing some ructions with the market traders.”

He also said of being asked to return: “It’s a privilege to be asked back because at the end of the day acting is a hard business. I’ve got children I need to put presents under the tree for. And it’s a job I did from when I was 15 and I don’t [feel] any different, and I love it. And I need the money!”

Despite the comments, the storylines he’ll become a part of upon his return still remain a mystery. Those working on the soap are clearly keeping their cards very close to their chest when it comes to Robbie Jackson.

If we’ve learned anything from his past on Albert Square however, it’s that drama and chaos follows wherever Robbie goes.

EastEnders continues weekdays on BBC One.
