With Kat and Alfie scheduled to make a brief return to EastEnders this Christmas, it's now also been revealed that another resident of Walford's past will be following closely behind - Derek Martin will reprise his role of Kat's father Charlie Slater in the New Year.
Bosses are keeping quiet about the reasons behind Charlie's return, but it's set to be a dramatic affair with Kat back on the Square. Will the family have a happy reunion, or will old tensions be brought to the surface once more?
Derek says of his return: "I'm so excited to be coming back into such a big and important storyline and I can't wait to get stuck in and be back with the family again."
Charlie's last appearance on the show came in December 2013, when he came to spend time with Kat and Alfie as part of their final Christmas in The Queen Victoria pub.
His return will be part of the storyline which sets the scene for a new BBC One drama, which sees Kat and Alfie head off to Ireland in search of answers for some very big and important questions.
