The 24-year-old actor has admitted he'd be devastated if the fragile fishmonger - a role he's portrayed since 2014 - breaks up with the brunette barmaid (Shona McGarty) over his drunken bunk-up with Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald).

Danny-Boy explained: "I will be upset if they break up as I really enjoy working with Shona. She's a fantastic actress, and I think it would be nice to see a young working-class couple experience something like this and come out the other side ... They've been through so much together and yet they're still madly in love and are as strong as ever. It's that side of their story that I hope Shona and I are lucky enough to show."

The young couple have just discovered their expecting a baby together and Danny hopes his alter-ego and Whitney stay together so he can work with some adorable babies on set.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, he said: "I love working with kids so I would really enjoy that. Whitney's not had an on-screen child of her own, either, so I think it would be nice for Shona as well. But it all depends on whether the 'EastEnders' story team feel that Whitney and Lee are ready for a family."
