Home Farm is to have a new family making their mark on the village in coming weeks.

When the lot is put up for auction and an open day is held for potential buyers, Nicola King is rude to prospective buyer Chrissie White (newcomer Louise Marwood), with no idea who she is.

Soon Nicola's lies are exposed when Chrissie's fiancé turns up - ex-villager Robert Sugden - who is also looking around the house.

Before long Chrissie's rich father arrives - Lawrence White, played by John Bowe - who wants to invest in the area, and Home Farm looks like just the place he wants to reside.

Not impressed with Chrissie's choice of future husband, he promptly puts in an offer on Home Farm when he realises Robert's reluctance on returning to the village.

Robert Sugden is to be played by Ryan Hawley in his first major television role, whilst Chrissie's troubled 14-year-old sold Lachlan - played by Thomas Atkinson - will join the family shortly.

Series producer Kate Oates explains: "Home Farm has always been the seat of power in Emmerdale. In Lawrence, we have a family man, with serious status and a complex history.
