Ricky Whittle was cleared of dangerous driving yesterday (11.08.10).

The former 'Hollyoaks' actor - who had been accused of deliberately running over photographer Stephen Farrell out of frustration at being pictured with former lover and co-star Carley Stenson, who he was driving home following a night out in November - was unanimously found not guilty by a jury made up of five men and seven women, after just over an hour of deliberations at Liverpool Crown Court.

I am relieved that justice has been done. But I have had great support from the people of Liverpool.

They also cleared the 30 year old of the lesser charge of careless driving, despite his admission his car did knock the photographer to the ground.

The 'Strictly Come Dancing' star gasped with relief and kissed a female court official as he left the dock.

After the hearing he said: "This has been nine months of hell - a nightmare. I was very emotional when the verdict came through.

"I am relieved that justice has been done. But I have had great support from the people of Liverpool."

Carley - who gave evidence - added: "It is the right verdict for Ricky."

Stephen refused to comment following the verdict.
