With years of soap experience under his belt thanks to his role as Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street, Ryan Thomas will be making the move to the Land Down Under after picking up a new role in much-loved Aussie soap Neighbours.
Coming to Ramsay Street as a loner with dark secrets, Ryan steps into the role of Rafael Humphreys; a man who’s on the Street to confront a difficult chapter that took place in his past. He’ll first hit the screen in early 2018.
Speaking about his new job, Ryan said: “I grew up watching Neighbours so to get the chance to join the cast is amazing. I was on holiday with my daughter when I got a phone call from my agent asking if I’d like to play this part… I spoke to the producer and found out more – it was very different from anything I’d played before – it was quite a deep, dark story, that really interested me. It’s a new challenge and I can’t wait to start filming.”
The Salford-born star first made waves in Coronation Street following his debut in the ITV soap back on Christmas Day in 2000, but after 16 years on and off the cobbles he decided to spread his wings and chase other ventures.
Appearing on Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls earlier this year, he made it right to the very end and now will be returning to his first love of acting.
Commissioning Editor at Channel 5, Greg Barnett said of Ryan’s new role: “With his good looks and Corrie years under his belt, Ryan is the perfect handsome devil. His arrival in Erinsborough marks the start of darker times for a particular Ramsay St favourite. Prepare to be gripped.”
Neighbours airs Monday – Friday on Channel 5 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm.
