Corrie Star Cilla Black

Cilla Black is set to make a guest appearance on 'Coronation Street'.

The former 'Blind Date' host has been pursued by the ITV soap's bosses for years to join the cast and while she has always turned them down because of conflicting work schedules, Cilla has now revealed she would like a one-off cameo.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper:"They have asked me to join the show. It's not their first approach - they have asked me several times. I love 'Corrie' but I keep saying no.

"I couldn't cope with all the hours they do, they work them like dogs. It's really hard work. It would be nice to do a cameo, but even Ian McKellen worked long hours when he did it for a while. If the role was right, I would do a one-off thing."

Cilla's pal Sir Ian McKellen had a brief role in the soap while comedian Peter Kay had a cameo.

Meanwhile, bosses at the show have hired a sixth actress to take on the role of little Amy Barlow.

Elle Mulvaney replaces Amber Chadwick as the six-year-old daughter of jailbird Tracy Barlow and Steve McDonald.

Elle will make her debut in the dramatic scenes when murderer Tracy returns for to the Street for grandma Blanche Hunt's funeral.
