'EastEnders' couple Ricky Butcher and Bianca Jackson will get engaged again at Christmas.

The former childhood sweethearts originally married in April 1997, but after a turbulent relationship split in 1999 - although since Bianca's (Patsy Palmer) return to Walford in 2008 they have been getting increasingly close.

This will hopefully be the happy ending everyone is waiting for. We could well be looking at the greatest love story ever told. It's going to be emotional.

Ricky (Sid Owen) is now set to pop the question to the fiery red-head at Christmas.

The couple will tie the knot for the second time in February, as 'EastEnders' celebrates its 25th anniversary.

A show spokesman said: "They'll get engaged around Christmas. Ricky and Bianca getting hitched again is what viewers have been dreaming of from the moment they arrived back in Albert Square.

"This will hopefully be the happy ending everyone is waiting for. We could well be looking at the greatest love story ever told. It's going to be emotional."

Soap bosses said they hope this wedding will prove as big a hit in the ratings as their original union, which pulled in 22 million viewers.
