Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson has been forced to pull out of filming the soap.

Starring in the ITV show as Rovers Return landlord Steve McDonald, Gregson has been reportedly hit with a mystery illness and will have to be written out of storylines until he has received his hospital test results.

A source said to The Sun newspaper: "It's a frightening time for him. He's felt under the weather for a while, but it's recently got worse."

Simon's said to have felt unwell last month when travelling home from a day out with his family, and when he went to the studios to film he became too ill and was sent back home.

"The most important thing is Steve's health. He's a great guy and gives everyone a lift on set.

"It's a shock that he has had to pull out, especially when his character is so heavily involved in the storyline." continued the source, referring to his mental health and depression storyline.

Anne Kirkbride who plays Deirdre Barlow is also taking a break from the drama for eight weeks, 'resting her bones' according to Marc Baylis (Rob Donovan).
