Auditioning for a part in the show, she lost out due to her similarities to Michelle Keegan, who was a part of Corrie at the time as Tina McIntyre.

Speaking to The Sun, Natalie explained: "It was for the part of Lauren, who was the sister of a barmaid called Violet.

"They invited me in and I skipped quite a few auditions because they already knew me from being in The Royal. But then I got a call saying they'd just cast Michelle Keegan in another part and we looked too similar!"

She also admitted that initially she had her doubts about Emmerdale's Alicia, because she thought the character started off too aggressive.

"I said, 'She's awful - she's really aggressive. I don't think I can do it'. But the producer said he thought I could.

"Plus, I was working in London at the time and my husband was in Leeds, and I really wanted to come home. Also Emmerdale was my favourite soap."
