Gemma Atkinson will soon be appearing on-screen in Emmerdale after joining the cast in news announced this week.

The actress will arrive in the village in the role of Bob Hope's (Tony Audenshaw) estranged daughter Carly Hope.

Speaking of her new role Gemma said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of 'Emmerdale' and I cannot wait to see what's in store for Carly. I hope you all enjoy watching her story unfold."

Carla is to make life difficult for her father when she shows up unexpected and expecting him to do everything he can to make up for lost time.

Viewers are to discover she - like her dad - is to have had a string of failed relationships behind her, meaning she's more in common with her father than she would care to admit.

Gemma is best-known to potential viewers for playing Hollyoaks' Lisa Hunter between 2001 and 2005, and is to begin filming for Emmerdale later this month, making her on-screen debut in March.

Kate Oates, Emmerdale series producer commented: "I'm delighted to welcome Gemma to the cast, her character Carly is sure to liven things up for Bob and Brenda [Lesley Dunlop] and anyone who crosses her path."
