The 46-year-old actor thinks it would be a gripping storyline if Cain was having an affair with his former lover Charity Tate (Emma Atkins) behind the back of his wife Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) on the ITV soap.

Speaking on ITV's 'This Morning' on Tuesday (22.03.16), Jeff said: "I think they should perhaps play a storyline, a triangle, which is often seen in soaps. People that have seen the show come by me and say you should be with Moira, you should be with Charity. So I think it would be a good storyline to play as a long-term thing. I'm not being drawn upon it. Personally, I think Cain and Moira are a great match and I think she brings a lot of stability to him."

Although Charity is now back in the Yorkshire Dales, Cain and Moira's next test comes in the return of the farmer's drug addict daughter Holly Barton (Sophie Powles).

With some debts to contend with Holly begins working with Charity to split her mother up from Cain as long as she gets paid for her meddling.

Speaking to the Metro Online, Sophie said: "We all know Holly, she's very good at manipulating a situation and getting what she wants.

"Cain has got suspicions about her motives of why she's back, so instantly there's this thing with Holly and Cain, they clash heads. Holly doesn't like that Cain is in her dad's house, they weren't together when she left, and she's come back and they're together. Instantly, Holly is a bit annoyed with him, and it doesn't take a lot to irritate her really."
