Jennie McAlpine doesn't ever want to leave her role on Coronation Street.

The 30-year-old actress has played the role of factory worker Fiz Stape for 13 years and has admitted she has no plans to leave the long-running ITV soap because she feels lucky to have a job she enjoys so much.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, she said: "I have spent my formative adult years on 'Coronation Street'. I've got some great mates at 'Corrie' and they are like my family. We are lucky, as we don't get sick of the sight of each other.

"Being in Corrie doesn't feel like hard work at all."

The flame-haired star, whose character is currently dating Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), admits she'd like to become a 'Coronation Street' stalwart like Ken Barlow (William Roache) and Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) or Jack (Bill Tarmey) and Vera Duckworth (Elizabeth Dawn).

She explained: "I am a massive fan of the show and you can see how it happens that people end up staying for so long.

"It's incredible. Let's hope 'Corrie' is here for another 50 years as I love being a part of it."

Fiz's relationship with Tyrone - which is currently under strain as Tyrone has been receiving messages from Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie) pretending to be his violent ex-fiancée Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede) - has been likened to the on-screen marriage of Bill Tarmey and Elizabeth Dawn and she thinks that makes their characters more popular.

She added: "I do think they [Fiz and Tyrone] are really strong and I really do hope Fiz has found eternal happiness with Tyrone.

"I hope this story doesn't break them up forever. People love the fact that Fiz and Tyrone are together."
