The 40-year-old actress - whose character Michelle Connor in the longstanding soap is expecting a baby with her husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) - has admitted she has "never" had to wear the cushioned piece of equipment and is apprehensive about sporting the mock pregnancy suit because she has always tried to look slim.

Speaking to the Sun Online about her apprehension for the upcoming scenes, she said: "I have never had to do it before so I think it will be a bit weird, a bit bizarre. I spend all my time trying not to have any bumps! I've been told they are comfortable."

Kym, who will reveal her "huge storyline" over the next coming months, believes viewers will be surprised to learn she is expecting a child after she urged her on-screen husband to undergo the surgical procedure to prevent them from expanding their brood.

She explained: "Michelle previously tried to push for Steve to have a vasectomy and he was refusing because she was adamant that she didn't want any more children and he was like, 'No, but I do!'.

However, Kym believes the birth of a new child will be the making of the on-screen couple, although she is yet to find out Leanne Battersby is also expecting Steve's child.

The brunette beauty said: "I think this is a really big turnaround for Michelle ... and is kind of what starts turning up these maternal feelings with Michelle.

"They've gone through a bit of a rough patch and she starts to think perhaps this will be the best thing for us, perhaps this is going to be the making of the relationship.

"She really does love him - I have no idea why - but he does really try. I think in her head she's kind of thinking this can only be a good thing, she's 40 and that's kind of why she really wants to.

"But of course, she doesn't know his secret ... he should be afraid!"
