Michael Le Vell has been given a new 12-month contract from bosses at Coronation Street.

The actor secured a deal thought to be worth £250,000 to play Kevin Webster in the soap up until at least November 2015 following a year of personal struggles.

Speaking to The Sun a source said: "Michael is over the moon and can now concentrate on getting his career back on track. He really feels now that he has beaten the booze and all his problems are in the past ...

"Like many of the stars, Michael is on a rolling 12-month deal, which means his future in the show is only guaranteed for a year at a time."

After playing Kevin for three decades, Michael had to be written out of the soap in 2013 as he awaited trial for child abuse allegations - ones he was cleared of in September.

His comeback to the soap was at first short-lived as he had to take another break in March to seek rehabilitation treatment for drug and alocohol abuse.

Michael now says he's been teetotal for a six month period and is looking to throw himself back into filming.
