The former 'EastEnders' actress reportedly told the Chiltern Railways employee to "f**k off" after he jokingly claimed he thought she was dead because her character Pat Butcher was killed off by bosses of the BBC One soap in 2012.

He said: "Pat Butcher? I thought you were dead."

The 73-year-old actress was apparently in no mood for jokes as she's said to have looked "disgusted" at the joke and started shouting at the man, who is believed to be a big fan of both her and 'EastEnders'.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "He obviously meant absolutely nothing by it. I'd have thought that she got called Pat all the time to be honest, she was on the telly for years.

"She needs to calm down a bit, maybe she'd had a long day - but the poor guy who asked her looked pretty upset, I thought he might cry."

It's since been revealed the man in question is "well known" for being chatty and friendly with customers but is sorry if he offended the legendary actress.

Chad Collins - who is head of stations at Chiltern Railways - said: "We are aware of this event and have spoken to the member of staff, who is well known for his positive interaction with our regular commuters.

"Clearly, on this occasion, his comment was misjudged and we apologise for the offence caused."

Pam has previously confessed she felt let down by bosses of the soap after they told her Pat was going to be killed off.

She said: "It was very, very difficult. I was saying goodbye to a character I'd inhabited for almost 26 years and, while I had chosen to leave 'EastEnders', I didn't want Pat to die."
