The 66-year-old icon made his return last month on his birthday (08.01.13) and the music mogul has said he isn’t giving up hope after having his requests to get ‘What About Us’ hitmaker on his show repeatedly snubbed.

He said: “I think if I could have anyone on ‘The X Factor’ it would be David Bowie. It’s no secret I’ve asked him, and he hasn’t said yes yet, but I’ll keep extending the invitations.”

Simon admitted the singer is a “legend” who has definite credibility, and he would love to have him on the televised singing competition as a special guest performer.

He continued: “He’s a legend. He’s a great songwriter, he has massive influenced on music today and he’s 100 per cent credible.”
Bowie is, Simon said, cooler than most people and it’s his whole persona which draws ‘The X Factor’ boss to him and his art.

He added: “I’m a fan. Not just of his music but of him, the man. He’s cool; Most of us aren’t. Bowie is.”

Meanwhile its being reported that Tulisa and Louis Walsh are heading for the exit as Simon Cowell shakes up The X Factor to revive the flagging show although Cowell, 53, is fighting to save his old pal.

Former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne is a strong favorite to return, the 60-year-old was at the Brits — to present an award with X Factor host Dermot O’Leary. Another said to be close to signing a new deal is Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

ITV are keen to keep Gary Barlow on the panel — even though Cowell is known to see him as “boring”, but a major revamp is on the cards after last year show was labelled dull as viewing figures dipped by two million.
