Yvette Fielding

Yvette Fielding

Yvette Fielding is one of the biggest names in television, and she's hitting our screens this Halloween with a special live-stream from Really, exploring paranormal activity in one of Britain's most haunted locations.

We got the chance to chat to Yvette about the live-stream, the return of 'Most Haunted', her experiences with the paranormal and Really's 'Paranormal Witness'.

Tell us about Really's Halloween live stream.

It's very exciting because we are going to be coming live from a place called The Old Rectory in Surrey, which has I think about seven ghosts that have been reported as haunting the location, and one of the ghosts is a maid - I think she hanged herself in the attic area - so that's quite interesting.

We're gonna have about four locked off cameras within the location and a roaming camera as well. I shall be within those haunted locations and reporting what happens, or if anything does happen of a paranormal nature, and hopefully the viewers at home that'll be watching via the web will report to me via Twitter and various other social media ways of communicating what they see, maybe behind me or they might see some orbs, or objects moving - that sort of thing. So it's gonna be really, really exciting.

It takes place on Halloween - would you say this is a night for heightened activity?

It depends. Sometimes yes, but it depends on the location to be honest.

The Old Rectory is somewhere I've never been before so it's going to be very interesting, but I think that if you have a good location that's reknowned for good paranormal activity, you can go there most days and expect to see or feel something, or hear something, so it doesn't have to be Halloween when you experience a lot of paranormal activity - it can happen anytime.

We're used to seeing you in a team in these sorts of locations - will your role as host for this investigation differ to that?

I'm going this one alone so it's quite interesting isn't it? I don't really like going anywhere on my own, so I might get a bit freaked out depending on what happens - which would be great for everybody at home, I'm sure they'll find it very funny indeed! But no, I really do hope something special happens, because it'd be great to be on my own and experience something. Let's hope there's a dark dingy cellar!

So you do still get nervous?

Yes, very much so. Weirdly enough I can't watch any horror movies or any supernatural movies of any kind - which people think is a bit strange - but it plays on my imagination too much.

So say for instance on Halloween night, the night before and someone said to me 'Let's watch The Exorcist' or something, and then there I am on Halloween night down in a cellar - 'Erm, no! I don't think that's a good idea!' (laughs)

How would you usually spend Halloween if you weren't doing something like this?

At the moment because 'Most Haunted' is coming back, I would be with my 'Most Haunted' team, and we would be investigating haunted locations!

In the three years I've had off, we've spent it with family which has been really nice and we've done stuff at Halloween parties for our family and friends.

So this year, we won't be doing that! We shall be in The Old Rectory and next year we shall be in another spooky, haunted location somewhere.

What have been some of the scariest moments in your career?

I think for me it would be actually seeing physical things occur to people, which I didn't think was possible. I used to think 'Oh, ghosts can't harm you', but in my experience they can, and I watched three crew members be scratched and cause scarring on the body, which had a huge impact on me, to the point where I thought 'actually, I don't want to do this anymore' - it scared me to death - the first time I saw these scratches occur, I'd never seen it happen, but apparently it's quite a worldwide phenomena that's happened in quite a lot of cases, where people are physically scratched.

You touched on 'Most Haunted' - is this the next major project we can expect from you?

Oh yes, definitely. We've just filmed our second show in the new series which is going on Most Haunted's TV channel which is available online on officialmosthaunted.com and the first show's going out on Halloween.

The thing I'm really interested in is hearing it from the public - from people who've had paranormal experiences in their own homes - and 'Paranormal Witness', the TV show that's going to be on Really on Halloween night is a brilliant programme where there's reconstructions of what has happened to people in their homes, and how it's affected their lives, and there's really some quite distressing stories that I've heard personally but are also on the programme, and I think that it's more scary when you know that these haunting stories are true, so I think if people are going to be watching UKTV over Halloween they should watch it from behind a cushion! (laughs)
