As it's his birthday today, we thought we would look back over the work Bryan Adams has done to promote veganism.

He became vegan at the age of 29- This was originally for health reasons but he now also advocates for animal rights. 'Being sympathetic to animal rights is just something that came very naturally to me. Perhaps because I used to have dogs growing up, and you know they became part of the family. And it never occurred to me growing up … I never put the whole thing of animal cruelty and that together as a youngster. But the moment I began to understand what was going on with the treatment of animals, it led me more and more in the way of the path I am [on] now, which is a complete vegan.' www.PETA.org.uk

During his tours between 1992-1994- Adams campaigned for the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary with chairman David McTaggart from Greenpeace. Between them, they handed out over 500,000 postcards at the concerts to encourage people to write to politicians running the countries who were blocking the vote. They wanted to encourage them to say 'yes' to the sanctuary and it was eventually created on 26th May 1994.

Adams supports PETA- He has appeared in a video with his vegetarian testimonial and written letters with their backing.

He speaks openly in interviews about his vegan lifestyle- He told the Guardian online; 'I abide by the rule that if it looks like it's going to clog your system, it probably will. People don't understand about me being vegan, but I'm not a preacher, I simply have my view on what works for me.'

He wrote to KFC- restaurants in Canada in 2007 to ask them to use more modern and humane methods of killing the chickens used for human consumption.

He cooks vegan food for his friends and family- 'I love to cook and entertain friends and family. My signature dishes are definitely salads but I do tend to get good ideas from restaurants - the Lebanese Maroush in London or Quintessence in New York where they serve raw, organic vegan food.' The Guardian online

He's open about his thoughts on fur- 'I'm opposed to fur and any kind of use of animal products. I don't eat them, and I don't wear them. I'm not for the killing of any creature - whether it be seals, cows, dogs, anything. So anytime it comes to any kind of animal cruelty, I'm totally against it.' www.PETA.org.uk
