After a Right to Information request was sent out, PETA India has now been ordered by the Committee of the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) to approach the Indian soap and detergent associations.

The order forbids tests on animals for household products sold in India including soaps, detergents and other products for use on surfaces.
This is the final stage of the process that was first instigated by PETA India back in 2014. The animal rights group collaborated with the Bureau of Indian Standards to remove animal tests from the testing standards for household products. This was supported by now-Union Minister Maneka Gandhi and other policymakers.
"Consumers in India will be delighted to know that the production of soaps and detergents manufactured there will not involve harming rabbits, mice or guinea pigs", says PETA UK Director Mimi Bekhechi, "However, as household products manufactured elsewhere can still be tested on animals, we continue to urge consumers all over the world to buy only from those companies listed as cruelty-free on PETA US' website."
Over 2,000 companies have ceased testing on animals already and are instead adopting non-animal methods.
Sadly there are still many who continue to test on animals by dripping substances into their eyes, smearing products onto their skin or by forcing things down their throats.
In 2015, the UK government succeeded in ending animal suffering in laboratories for household products.
With that said, animals will still die because of testing for detergents and air fresheners because the government still allow the testing of ingredients for household products used in other circumstances.
The UK needs to follow in India's footsteps to have a full and complete animal testing ban on household products and their ingredients and should encourage other European countries to follow suit.
