Why are you both so passionate about enabling people to live the healthiest and happiest lives they can?

Our goal is to provide people with healthier options of the foods they know and love, so that they can make better choices for their health. I think when people have allergies or choose to eliminate certain foods for health reasons they often feel excluded socially, or that they miss out on enjoying certain foods. Being healthy shouldn't have to mean compromising on taste and quality, we want to help show people that being healthy tastes as good as it feels! I think it's hard for people to make the right choices; our lives leave us feeling tired, stressed and stretched for time, and it's our health that suffers. Often we reach for convenience foods that are loaded with sugar and many ingredients that our bodies don't even recognise! We hope to bridge this gap by keeping our products healthy and whole food based as well as accessible! Ultimately, we want to encourage people to make the right choices that contribute to their health so they feel fabulous!

Why is food our greatest form of medicine?

Food is not just calories for energy and sustenance, food is information, it communicates to our cells and enables them to function optimally and to help our bodies to heal. When you think about it, nature provides everything we need to stay healthy, all the right foods in their whole form. These foods are a powerhouse of incredible compounds such as antioxidants, flavonoids and essential fatty acids that have the ability to transform our health. I think it's empowering for people to realise that these simple choices have such a huge impact on health. Food is such a powerful tool that everyone can use to keep themselves healthy. You can either feed disease or fight it just by what you put on your plate!

Why are natural, pure, whole foods better for our bodies?

Wholefoods in their natural state, contain a variety of compounds, which all work together in a synergistic fashion, in order to promote health. It's when we start processing foods, and isolating these that we start to lose these beneficial compounds, our bodies then metabolise them differently to how they were intended making them higher GI or lower in fibre for instance. Refined or highly processed foods have little to offer in the way of valuable nutrients, and contain what we call empty calories, which provide nothing more than energy and often contribute to disease.

Why are people happier when they are healthy?

When are bodies are functioning optimally we have steady levels of energy, feel bright, have no digestive complaints, brain fog or fatigue. Mood is an important factor that's influenced heavily by the health of the rest of our body, and primarily the health of our gut! Therefore, if we keep our bodies happy we keep our whole body in balance including our emotions, outlook on life and our vitality for which to approach life.

Why is a healthy life down to good habits?

Good health is not achieved overnight just as disease is not formed in a day! It is the choices we make every day that have the greatest impact on our health. I like to think of it as a steady drip that soon forms a puddle and then a pool; this is especially true when we talk about type 2 diabetes for instance. It's the daily choices that tax our bodies to the extent where eventually our bodies cannot cope with the constant spikes in insulin and the stress on the pancreas, however if we were to change our habits the body would work hard to correct the imbalance and restore us to health.

Why is it never too late to make changes?

The body wants to heal itself and knows exactly what to do in order to achieve this, given the right tools and support- it's truly inspiring to see what can be achieved. We see time and time again how people transform their health by changing their diets, whether its dramatic weight loss, reducing hypertension, reversing diabetes or overcoming cancer! It is never too late to start looking after our incredible bodies that work so hard to serve us in all that we do!

How do you personally help to protect and preserve the environment?

As a company we realise we have a huge responsibility for our impact on the environment, which is why making eco-friendly choices is at the heart of all that we do. We have chosen to be an organic company because we believe it's better for the environment, we sweeten all our products with coconut sugar which was voted the world's most sustainable sweetener by the FAO in 2014. We don't use dairy and pride ourselves on being a vegan company, ensuring we help to reduce the impact of animal agriculture on our planet. All our packaging is either 100% recyclable or made using recyclable materials and we are working hard to ensure we use 100% biodegradable packaging in the future. We recycle our waste and use biodegradable bags and wooden spoons instead of plastic, and we aim to create as little waste as possible, it's all in the detail!

You won a Best Of Organic Market (BOOM) award in May, so how does this make you feel?

Incredible! It was such an honour to be a part of the BOOM awards this year, to be involved in the celebration of organic produce and help create awareness about what being organic stands for. Being part of the Soil Association is something we are very proud of and to win an award as the best in chilled and frozen was an amazing achievement for us. As a young company its very inspiring for us to receive such recognition and good reviews, we love hearing what people think about our products and the response so far has been overwhelming.

Can you reverse damage done with food?

It depends what you mean by damage? I think we are seeing more and more how people are reversing symptoms/conditions through diet, because these diseases we are experiencing are as a result of poor diet and lifestyle choices to begin with! Our bodies know exactly what to do to heal and repair, we have all the inbuilt mechanisms we need, but the body needs the right tools and support for which to do this and that's where food and good nutrition come in. There is no magic pill; it takes time, dedication and a thorough lifestyle change and most importantly the right support, guidance and attitude! I think it's important to mention that with multiple conditions especially those that are chronic we are aiming to manage them by leading a symptom free life but it's important to note that if we go back to our old ways our symptoms will often return. I don't believe in diets, I believe in taking responsibility for your own health and choosing what is best for you for life! Only that is sustainable for long-term health outcomes.

Why go organic? What side effects can arise from eating non-organic food?

I think it's a shame that today we have to choose between organic and non-organic, shouldn't all food be organic and if you wish to, you can choose to buy those made with chemicals! Studies have shown that organic food is higher in beneficial antioxidants and nutrients. Conventional farming that uses methods such as monocropping, pesticides and insecticides is responsible for soil depletion, which in turn causes nutrient depletion of our foods and affects our wildlife and the ecosystem. Pesticides are both harmful to our bodies and to our environment; multiple studies show the carcinogenic effects and toxic impact of pesticides on health. We are exposed to so many chemicals and toxins today that anything we can do to reduce our overall load is vital for our long-term health. The side effects of these are often dangerous in their accumulative impact, which can contribute to multiple chronic and degenerative diseases.

What is next or you both?

We have a lot to do with The Nude Spoon! It's really a case of trying to now get it past the early product development/minimum viable product stage to a successful business. We have to shift how we approach things from being quite reactive which is I think just inevitable in the early days when you have no idea what you're doing, to understanding what we want to achieve, planning and executing well to make it happen. For me, next steps is to turn this labour of love into something that people can actually benefit from, because the ice cream will become available and all the people who wanted to know where they could get it for the last 18 months will now be able to enjoy what we've been working so hard to create!
