Vegans avoid all animal derived food, clothing and products. They are also against the exploitation of animals for entertainment- these are the more obvious values- but there are other values that define a vegan- here are just a few.

Don't judge others- There is little point in criticising others for eating meat- something you perhaps once did. Be positive about the vegan lifestyle and people might ask questions, show an interest and follow in your footsteps.

Respect all life- Let this extend beyond just your pets and the animals you are in close contact with- but all animals- the ones you'll never even meet but who deserve freedom and life all the same.

Read as much as you can on veganism- So you can enlighten the doubters, eat healthfully, help the environment and live joyfully.

Equality- All the beings on this earth have a right to be here which includes the largest animal to the smallest insect. All lives are important not just those of humans and domesticated animals.

Sentient beings have the ability to feel- Both mental and physical joy and pain- even if they can't express this- they still feel it when they are harmed and taken away from their natural and normal environments.

Be mindful- Think before ordering food, buying a product and trying on clothes- sometimes the animal products are disguised very well. Plan ahead at all times.

Your actions make speak louder than your words- Not your beliefs- your lifestyle has to correlate with what you believe or you don't believe in it enough.

You need to lift the veil- If you want to find out the truth, be prepared to look behind the clever marketing techniques and traditional viewpoints on health and food- often they are not what they seem. If you can't bear to watch an expose or undercover video- you probably shouldn't be partaking in it.

Vegetarianism is step in the right direction bit it isn't enough- By avoiding meat only- you don't help to eliminate suffering in its entirety. Anything taken from an animal against its will such as milk and eggs causes cruelty to some degree.

Humans are not natural carnivores- Your teeth and digestive system are built for consuming and processing plants- not animals. Trust your gut.
