Viewers picked Janice to compete in the live trial. She arrived at the trials area, horrified that she’d been chosen but said afterwards: “I got there and I was thoroughly happy to be there and win some stars for the team and for the camp.”

Ant and Dec explained the Trial. There were five stations, each of which had a challenge. But Ant continued: “There is some good news. You won’t have to face the Trial alone,” and in walked Christopher Biggins, to Janice’s delight.

Janice greeted him with a kiss and afterwards she said: “Biggins popped in and he gave me a big old kiss and a wink with those ice blue eyes of his and I knew that I was in love. I think with the addition of Christopher Biggins to the camp, he’s going to be a lot of fun. He laughs a lot, he’s wonderful. He’s sexy as hell. Who couldn’t love this guy?”

Biggins said to Janice: “And who are you?” and turned her round so he could read her name on her T-shirt.

“Hello boys!” He shouted to Ant and Dec.

He remained optimistic and said: “My feeling as I walked in the jungle, into the bush trial, I was quite excited actually and then suddenly the fear did start.”

Ant and Dec continued to explain the Trial. “Janice you can choose to play or pass to Christopher. He’s your life line. However you can only use him twice.”

They revealed the first station and the first clue which simply read Reach. Janice determinedly stated: “I’m gonna play.”

But as she tried to put her left arm in, she shouted: “No, I see a thing looking. No, no, no. There’s something moving in there.”

“But it’s fabulous. Go on Janice, he’s gorgeous and we need the food,” encouraged Biggins.

Afterwards, Janice said: “The first thing I had to do was reach my hand. And I knew that I couldn’t do it because I saw some snoots nosing through, wah, wah, wah.”

Biggins said: “Janice’s face was an absolute picture. She was just horror stricken. So I can understand that she was anxious because it looked at though they were actually quite big.”

They moved onto the second hole, which contained scorpions. Janice exclaimed: “Scorpions? Are you serious?”

She asked if she could pass to Biggins, attempted to put her hand in, but couldn’t bear to go through with it.

“I can’t I’m flipping out. It’s a no. I’m sorry.”

Afterwards she said: “Forget it I couldn’t do it. There was no way in hell that I could do it. No way.”

And Biggins said: “It’s awful to say this but yes I would have done it. I would have put my hand into the scorpions because I wanted to get some meals for everyone, but I don’t think she would have done the second one.”

Ant and Dec reveal the second station where the clue was Grab. Janice immediately said: “I’ll pass.”

Dec explained Catch a falling Star where Biggins had to stand underneath a box and grab a star as various critters were released over him. Biggins stood underneath with his mouth open as critter slime was released over him. But he managed to grab the star.

Janice said: “All I could smell was Biggie. He just needs a shower. Now you know what it’s like to have a child. He looks like my first born.”

He stepped to the next box where cockroaches were emptied over him and he successfully caught the star making a total of two. Janice meanwhile recoiled and refused to stand next to him. Ant told her to stand next to him and told her: “He’s your campmate. “

Biggins retorted: “I’m very camp mate,” leaving Ant and Dec giggling.

The next station was revealed with the clue Bite and Janice bravely said that she would do it. Two boxes were revealed that she had to put her head into and retrieve a star with her mouth. One contained spiders and the other contained snakes. Janice told Ant and Dec that they were sick and put her head in the spider box, successfully detaching the star. She cried as Biggins comforted her.

“Don’t cry darling,” he said.

She then tried to put her head in the snake box but was unable to do so. “I can’t do it. It’s too freaky. It’s like child birth. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.”

Janice later said: “This whole thing is fear. That’s all I’ve got. All the trials are nothing but let’s get Janice. Let’s make Janice afraid and make her freak out.”

And Biggins added: “I would love to have pushed her head up and said get up there girl. Get up there and get the star. It’s a terrible thing for a girl to have to do. I think she’s pretty frightened. I think men are better than women at that somehow. Slightly better.”

The final challenge was the Critter Dome which contained five stars. Shaped like a large shower cubicle it had holes in it through which crickets, cockroaches, flies and mealworms were poured.

Janice screamed: “It looks like a bad gay bar!”

She lasted about thirty seconds before asking to get out, leaving Biggins floundering to find the remaining stars.

Later he said: “Suddenly because my goggles were covered in slime, I couldn’t really see anything. All I could see was this stuff coming out and then I was aware that she wasn’t there and I thought fuck, where’s she gone and she sort of disappeared.

She was outside but it was great in a way because I found it difficult to see these little stars but she was able to point them out and that’s when I think we got four stars in that game because it was chaos in there. God knows what was coming out at me. I don’t want to know.’

Biggins emerged from the cubicle and again Janice recoiled, holding onto Ant as a barrier. The two left the trials area having won seven stars.

Janice later said: “I feel pathetic that I can’t do the things that people can’t do every day. I feel pathetic that I’m not as strong as Katie is because I’m that close to saying I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here.”

And in a plea to the public she said: “It’s more emotional. I just want to be the victor but let somebody else do it. Let big-mouth Rodney do it, or Marc. Let’s see how they can do.”

Biggins added: “I thought I would be walking straight into camp. I didn’t realise I was going to go straight into a trial which I think was fantastic though. A really good way to come in. Because I was the last to arrive, I just felt there may be some bad feeling with the fellow contestants so it’s lovely that I can absolutely come in with Janice with I think six [it was actually seven] meals so I think they should be pleased that we’ve done very well.”

Janice said: “I’m going to go in and try to be as humble as I am because I’m not proud. I feel I could have done everything because I did my very best and if that’s not good enough then you can all piss off. I think the camp is going to be really pissed off to have another member. They’re absolutely very territorial starting with Lynne, then Rodney, then John. Those are the guys that are very territorial.”
