Las Vegas' most notorious institution, the drunken, spur of the moment wedding, is to begome a thing of the past, thanks to budget cuts by the city authority.
It's most infamous bride, Britney Spears was married to childhood sweetheart, Jason Alexander, after a massive drinking session in the city. But those who want to follow in her footsteps, will have to be quick, as from the beginning of next week, marriage licences will only be available during daytime hours.
According to Elen Black, of the Marriage Bureau of Las Vegas County, the night shift only sells around 4% of the total licences issued. That's 4,900 out of the 122,259, issued, last year.
Although the early morning wedding will still be an option, the marriage licence will have to be obtained in advance, as very soon, the offices will be closed during the 'kebab shop' hours, opening at 8 in the morning, and closing at midnight.
Wedding chapel owners are not happy with the change, as it's expected that they will lose business because of it. On a typical weekend, one wedding chapel said they marry between 10 and 20 couples, between midnight and dalight, and they expect that high profile couples will be put off marrying in Vegas.
