It’s not only the Traditional English Wedding that’s steeped in Custom and Superstition. Traditional weddings around the world are full of different customs. Work some international flavour into your wedding day with our guide
Wales Wales may be attached to the rest of the UK, but it’s a proud nation in itself and there are literally thousands of Welsh customs you could include in your wedding to honour your Celtic heritage.
You could look to the St David’s Day celebrations for your Wedding theme and carry use Daffodils in abundance, along with red Dragons.
For something a little more subtle, it’s traditional to give Love spoons to the Bride and Groom, but miniature ones are available and they can make a great favour.
France There are probably no more romantic people than the French, and traditional French wedding ceremonies tend to be very beautiful and full of romance.
On the morning of the wedding, the Groom will meet the bride at her parent’s house and they will walk to church together. On the way, they will be met by Children who stretch white ribbon across their path, which the Bride and Groom must cut as they proceed towards the chapel to represent how much the couple have come through.
Another Tradition is the beheading of bottles of champagne, with a specially made sabre. Many years ago, the Hussars under Napoleon's command, would celebrate their victories by beheading bottles of Champagne whilst Brave ladies held them in place.
The Tradition of the Toast evolved in France, too, but they had a slightly different way of doing it. A Cube of Toast was placed in each of the couple’s glasses and when the first toast was raised, the couple would race to finish their Drinks. Tradition had it that the first to get to the bottom of the glass would be the one to rule the household.
