9% of lucky brides to be only tried on five dresses before landing on their favorite.

One bride said: “I only went to one wedding dress shop, tried on a handful of dresses and bought the second one there and then. Everyone told me beforehand that when I tried on the dress I’d know it was the one. I thought they were talking rubbish but they weren’t. As soon as I put my dress on I fell in love with it – even though it was two sizes too big and pulled back with pins.”

72% tried on 15 in order to get to the one that they would be wearing on their wedding day.

18% tried on 16-20 dresses before settling on a decision. 62% said that they usually bought the first dress they tried on but wanted to test the others just to make absolutely sure that there was nothing better out there!

One bride to be said: “I have tried on a lot of dresses, but I’m only planning to get married once so why shouldn’t I? There are so many different shapes and styles that until you actually put them on you have no idea whether they’ll suit you or not.  I did actually buy one of the first dresses I tried on and I absolutely love it – I still had a great time trying on all the others though.”

Brides were less fussy about their bridesmaids’ dresses- with something already in mind before shopping for their dresses, hence why a lot of bridesmaids dresses are bought before the wedding dress.

The ideal wedding dress shopping companions are mums, mother in laws, sisters, close family relatives or best friends as all are thought to give an honest response in dress picking to ensure the bride does not look out of place on her special day.

“I went dress shopping with my mum and a couple of friends and a few times had them all in tears when I was trying on dresses. It’s a really emotional time – and so lovely to shop with the women I’m closest to. It was a really special shopping trip and one I wouldn’t want to share with anyone else.”

Louise Martin from PromotionalCodes.org.uk said:Buying the right wedding dress is really important – it’s the one day in a woman’s life when she knows all eyes will be on her and she will want to look perfect.

“Dress shopping can be lots of fun, it can also be very stressful so it is a good idea to do some research beforehand. So have an idea of the styles you like, the budget you can go up to and where the best places are to look.”
