Singer and dancer Brightman married Webber on the 22nd March 1984. He first met her when she auditioned for the production of Cats where she was cast as Jemima.

After they wed, he cast her in the lead of The Phantom of the Opera. Webber refused to open the production unless she played the lead of Christine. She then starred in his subsequent play Song and Dance. Webber wrote the famous song from 'The Phantom of the Opera' for Brightman, 'The Music of the Night'.
They had no children and sadly divorced on 3rd January 1990. Brightman and Webber have still maintained a professional relationship- as she starred in another one of his productions; Aspects, following their separation.
