One of the hardest things about planning a wedding has got to be setting the menu. Deciding what will impress, but not cost, catering for all tastes, and fit in with the style of your wedding, is bound to create problems.
But with a little thought the perfect menu could be only hours away. Have a look at our guide to choosing food:
1. When is your wedding? The date and time are all important factors in chosing the food. Consider what you expect the weather to be like, how hungry people are likely to be at that time, and what they might fancy eating. You might fancy a caesar salad at 6pm on December 23, but it's unlikely, unless you're getting married in Australia.
2. What's in Fashion? Yes, foods are subject to fashions, too. Talk to your caterer about the menu, as he or she will have ideas on what's up and coming, and what's likely to be out next year.
3. What do you like? Guests will remember whos wedding they're eating at if the foods refect your own tastes. Did your sweetie take you for a romantic picnic for your first date? Reminisce about that date, and add the foods you had to your wedding menu. Perhaps you both love Fishing? Use delicious, fresh fish on your menu. Be original and enjoy choosing the menu
4. Family heirlooms.
Does you Grandma have a recipe she's known for? Maybe your Mum makes a mean steak and kidney pie? If so, try to get the caterers to recreate the dish en masse for your wedding. It'l break the ice for your guests, and serve as a symbolic initiation into your family for your sweetie amd his parents!
5. Wish you could take your family on your honeymoon? Ok, maybe not, but they deserve a little slice of paradise for all the effort they've put in, so why not serve a menu based on your honeymoon destination? The Caribbean? Serve jerk Chicken and Curried Vegetables. The Far East? How about a Japanese barbeccue - where the guests pick their food and it's stir fried before their eyes?
