The two took part in a cake fight in what started out as pristinely white wedding dresses. They boasted their fun personalities and cheekiness while getting their gowns caked in, well cake.

Cancer became a massive part of their lives when Sharon, 63, was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002, she got through it and then had a double mastectomy in 2012. Kelly was diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene in 2015.

The found that during Sharon's treatment for cancer- the whole family became closer than ever before- particularly the relationship between mum and daughter.

"Kelly did everything, from getting me a clean nightie and a cup of tea, to just holding my hand - I didn't have to ask for anything."

Kelly recalled that Sharon didn't want to take her jewellery off when she was on the way to surgery for her double mastectomy.

" They gave her something to calm her down which sent her a bit loopy, and she said, 'I'm not taking my diamonds off!'", said Kelly. "Only my mum would try and sneak diamonds into an operation!"

The pair have come together to ask other women to get dirty in Race for Life's Pretty Muddy - 5k muddy obstacle course where women of any ability can climb, jog or walk - and help beat cancer sooner.

Sharon said: "I'm honoured to be supporting Cancer Research UK's Race for Life again this year. Cancer has stolen the lives of so many, but there is something we can do to help change the odds.

Along with Kelly, I want to inspire women out there to unite to defy cancer and join the Pink Army that is Race for Life. As a cancer survivor myself, I know it takes all your strength and the support of your family and friends to overcome this disease. Come on everyone, let's show cancer that the Pink Army is on the move and we're declaring war."

Kelly said : "Watching mum fighting colon cancer inspired me to want to do something to beat the disease. I'm supporting Cancer Research UK's Race for Life so that others won't have to see their loved ones battling cancer. By signing up to Race for Life you can make a difference. Whether you walk, jog or charge, let's unite against cancer. The gloves are off and we're ready for a fight."

Cancer Research UK is asking all women to stand with Sharon and Kelly by taking part in the Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco. All funds raised will go towards beating over 200 different types of cancer.

Women can take part in 5K, 10K and Pretty Muddy events, with over 300 events taking place nationwide this summer.
