The average person will attend 15 weddings in their lifetime and the money easily mounts up.

Travel- That car journey, trip on the train or plane ride will set you back around £1,500.

Clothes etc. - Whether you are the maid of honour or just a guest, there are certain expectations of how you should dress- so getting the appropriate outfit, accessories, hair and make-up can cost a packet- around £3750.

Accommodation- Weddings can be located anywhere in the country or even abroad, so often there is a need for hotel stays which will set you back around £3000.

Food and drink- You may get a posh meal or buffet after the bride and groom say 'I do' but there are many motorway service stops on the way there to keep your strength up for long car journeys and meals at the hotel. £1125 worth in fact.

Gifts- You can't pass off a recycled bottle of wine you got last Christmas- people often ask for specific things so there is no dodging this one. (£1125)

Best man/ maid of honour- This averages at three times per person, which equates to three dresses/ suits and other little add ones that come along with this responsibility. (£1800)

Drinks- Hotels and reception bars are never cheap so you can easily spend £900 on drinks just keeping yourself hydrated or drunk depending on your preference.

Hen and stag parties- Even before the couple say 'I do' you are already shelling out for their pre-wedding parties- Flights, hotels, drinks- it can pile up- (£3360). In fact, 18% actually borrow money to be able to afford to attend such an event.

Wedding Photos- £480- You can't resist a pic of yourself and your partner that's been edited by the professionals- you have never looked better so why not get a copy for your mantelpiece?!

Annual leave- If a wedding lands on a weekend- it's better for the guests- but if they want to have a really good time- hangover days are often necessary- which eats into their holidays costing approximately £1680.
