Margret Thatcher

Politics is often seen as a man’s business but, one woman changed the face of politics and made it more accessible for women. As part of the Conservative party Margret Thatcher’s first post was as a junior minister for pensions.

When the Conservatives were defeated by Labour in the 1974 General Election, Thatcher challenged Former Prime Heath for the leadership of the party, and won.

Thatcher took a chance in a very male dominated world to become leader of the Conservative party, something which definitely paid off when she became Prime Minister in 1979. Thatcher was the longest running head of state of the 20th Century and is the only female Prime Minister there has been.
