Bluegirl64 Is Having A Hard Time At Home

bluegirl64 asks:
Hi, I am so upset. I lost my phone at school and my parents are always shouting at me about it.
They mention it every day, I cry every night. Please help me, I don't have anyone else to turn to. What should I do?
Thank you.
How long ago did you lose your phone? Your parents are probably mad because they think you need to be taught about the value of money - you should probably let them know how sorry you are, how bad you feel about it, and offer to do some chores for them, or for neighbours or family, to earn some money to pay them back?
It’s hard to know, without having any understanding of your situation, what you should do but perhaps writing a letter to them and leaving it on the side when you go to bed, explaining how genuinely sorry and upset you are, and how you are crying every night - maybe it will help to make them realise you haven’t taken it for granted.

Why are they giving you such a hard time? What did you do when you admitted you’d lost it? Ask for a new one? Say you didn’t care? It seems like a really strange reaction to go on and on about it - and you’re obviously really upset.
Show them you’re a grown up, and that you’re taking responsibility for it. Maybe they’re worried that some kid is going to use up all your credit, or if you were on a contract, they maybe just need to cancel the contract or alert the phone company.
If you need to find out the contract details, make an appointment to go in with your mum, to your nearest phone shop. Just be proactive. And let your teachers know how badly it has gone down at home – maybe they can help.
