Jasmine asks :

Hi Lucy,

As weird as it sounds...when people talk about blood or makes me think about it, it makes me feel weak at the knees. I wouldn't consider myself as squeamish...why does the thought of blood make my knees feel faint? I think it's a bit weird, and nobody understands what I mean when I try to explain it to someone else. Help!

Everyone has that one thing that makes them feel, like you say, ‘weak at the knees’. For some its cotton wool or finger nails down a blackboard- it makes people feel uncomfortable at the sight or sound of it. It can be difficult for others to understand if they don’t share the same reactions to the thing as you do. Chances are that they have something else you would find strange that they can’t abide.

It might be that you have a slight case of blood phobia, however if you don’t faint, or have panic attacks at the sight of it then it sounds like it’s a mild reaction to blood. Especially as you have only mentioned talking about it- perhaps you react differently when you see it or touch it.

If it gets worse, like any other phobia it can be treated with cognitive behavioural therapy, which you can arrange through your doctor.
