sipokazi asks :

Is there any chance of me becoming pregnant if I have slept with someone who has been drinking all night and even before we had sex?

Our Reply

Hi Sipokazi,

A few drinks can act as a confidence booster and encourage people to be less uptight about their sex life; however alcohol in large amounts can impair his sexual functions.

Alcohol slows down your brain function, breathing and pulse- psychologically it can be liberating so your emotions and desires are at an all-time high, however in terms of performance- it can affect erections.

When he gets an erection normally- the blood flows into the penis and most of it stays there to maintain the rigidity. When he drinks the blood vessels stay open so blood flows out again and consequently the penis does not say hard. Ideally one to two drinks is the best amount to consume for a successful sex session.

If you had unprotected sex and you are not his first partner then you ought to get checked out at your local STI clinic- he may not have come but you could still have contracted something from him if he already had an STI.

If you were both drunk things could be a bit blurry- if you are unsure if he came inside you and you had unprotected sex then I would suggest getting tested for pregnancy.

It is certainly more difficult for a man to get erect when drunk however not impossible so there is a chance you could be pregnant if you have had unprotected sex. Either book an appointment with your doctor or pop to your local chemist and get yourself a pregnancy test if you are unsure. It will put your mind at ease if nothing else.
