Jo asks :

Hi Lucy,

I am in my 30s and have been single 9 years and work 45 hours a week. How can I meet new and interesting people?? Thanks

Have you joined any dating sites? This might be a way to meet someone who has a similar work schedule to you and the same potential passion for your career.

Perhaps the reason you have struggled is because other women you have come into contact with maybe don’t see work from your point of view and understand how much the extra time invested matters.

If you find someone who is like-minded then it might make things easier. You could struggle to find time to see each other but when you do it would be something that you likely make the most of and put your all into.

Perhaps the reason you have been single is because you have given your all to your work- maybe it’s time to put a bit more focus into your love life. Perhaps look into some speed dating events or making a profile and sign up to some dating sites to get you kick started. Sometimes not looking can become a bit of habit and usually dating is an active process- something that you aim to keep going with.

Is there anyone at work that takes your fancy? Or could you join any clubs to embrace your hobbies? You could have something in common with both sets of people which gives you a great grounding to build upon.

Could you ask your friends to get involved and see if they have anyone who they think would be good for you? That way you could go out as a group and see if you hit it off without the pressure of a one on one date.

If you really want to find someone then it might be that you need to spend some time thinking a little bit less about work and more about your love life to get you where you want to be. Perhaps getting that balance to your life might help you to unwind after a day at work.
