Alex asks :

Hi Lucy,

I have been having sexual dreams every night for months now but I never remember them. I am only aware as my partner tells me. I make noises, say a man’s name and move around. Obviously this is causing a lot of stress in our relationship. But how can I stop it or even understand it when I can't remember doing it. Please help

Sex dreams are very rarely about sex. The temptation is to think that they mean you want to cheat on your partner- when actually they are often about other things.

Sex dreams are more about bringing two things together- two conflicting aspects of yourself.

If you say another man's name, then it is more likely to be about the anxieties that you have within your relationship. These might be because of the dreams or something else. If it is the dreams that are causing this stress, then perhaps by having a better understanding of what they mean it will help to dispel any conflict.

If there is something else that is going on your relationship, then it might be time to address otherwise any unresolved issues will likely continue to be expressed in this way.

Cheating could mean that you're carrying some guilt around about something. Think hard- do you feel this way about any of your recent actions or things you have said? Do you need to apologise for something?
