Neil asks :

Hello Lucy,

My name's Neil. I'm attracted to this new woman that's started at my work. She's only a temp member of staff at the moment, so I don't know how long she will be around for. I sell electrics, but there are no sparks between us, even though I'd like there to be. What should my approach be here?

Should it matter how long she will be around for? She might leave your place of work but find somewhere close to, so if you do start anything up you could still maintain a relationship. You sound like a guy with a sense of humour so I would start with that. Women like men who can make them laugh with silly jokes like the one from above- it might not have her rolling around but it should peak her interest.

Perhaps ask her out for tea one night after work or a drink at the local and ask her how it’s all going. Women value a man who listens to her so if you are willing to sit and hear what she has to say then she will feel special in your company. If she is a temp she might feel uneasy at the thought of finding more work and she is sure to have opinions about other members of staff too, so you have something to talk about to break the ice. You might find out that you have things in common outside of work too.

All you can do is ask- if she just wants to be friends then if nothing comes of it you won’t necessarily have to see her every day afterwards. However if you don’t ask she might leave and you could be left wondering if only I had said something.

Should I get back with my ex or be without the spark?
