Sheran asks :

Hi Lucy,

I am 69 yrs. old and 5ft 11 and my measurements are almost the same - bust 46, waist 45 and hips 43. I pretty much live in tee shirts and jeans because nothing else looks good. I will be attending the wedding of my grandson the end of this month and would love to look pretty and stylish for once in my life. Any help or suggestions would be wonderful. One other issue is my legs. They look like white toothpicks because of my tiny bone structure. For this reason I hesitate to wear a dress. Please, please help. I just don't know what to do. Thank you so much.

Hi Sheran,

If you wear the same thing a lot of the time this is your chance to shock people with a new look and make yourself feel really confident at your grandson’s wedding!

I would suggest going for a pamper the day before- get your hair done, arrange for your make up to be professionally done on the day, other options include getting your nails painted and a pedicure, so all of the tiny details are taken care of. If you are due a shave perhaps opt for a wax instead so you have a smooth finish on your legs which might make you feel a bit better about getting them out in public.

You can usually find in most department stores, such as Debenhams, House of Frasier, John Lewis, shop assistants that will help you find something that is suitable for your age and your body shape. I would suggest booking in and paying your local shop a visit and finding someone you feel comfortable with. Try to be open minded when you go and try on things that you would never normally consider and just see how you feel, you might surprise yourself! In terms of shoes- maybe don’t go too high if you are not used to wearing them- a pair of kitten heels might be a good way to ease yourself into high heels.

You could always wear stockings with a light colour if you are worried about your legs or get some at home tanning products, however if you have not done it before you might get streaks, so just judge it accordingly! Maybe a spary tan would be better?

It is probably best to start shopping and making appointments now so you are not rushing at the last minute or you could put yourself under more pressure and end up settling for something that makes you feel uncomfortable all day.
