Hi i am after getting the implant removed after over 2 years with it i haven't had a period in about 3 yrs me and my partner had unprotected sex and i am just wondering how long do i have to wait before i take a pregnancy test as i dont have periods in order to wait to see do i miss one so im a bit confused to be honest
It does take time for your body to get back into it’s natural rhythm after getting the implant removed. As you are unsure of when your cycle should and will be after so long it is always a good idea to use protection when having sex just to make sure. If it has been a few day then it is fine to take a test, you could take one at home or you could go to the doctors, depending on what you feel most comfortable with. It might be sensible to take another test a couple of weeks after that too, to make absolutely sure that you are not pregnant and then use protection after that so you don’t have to worry.
The implant often stops you from having periods for the time you are on it., It can also have the reverse effect and make you bleed continuously in the beginning while your body adjusts, everyone is different. Doctors often say that is you are intentionally trying for children it is best to wait for a year or two after coming off the pill or an implant before you try, however put your mind at ease with a test.
