Deborah asks :

Hi Lucy,

What can I do for IBS?

Our Reply

Hi Deborah,

I would suggest that you go to the doctors- you may have IBS or you could have food intolerance to something already in your diet. Either can cause tummy discomfort constipation or diarrhoea symptoms. Try looking at your diet and see what you eat a lot of- perhaps this is something you have built up an intolerance to over time because your system is overloaded with one of its ingredients. Or are you suffering from large amounts of stress as this can also cause the effects that you are describing.

If you go to your doctors then they can rule out any other illnesses too, such an infection, coeliac disease or inflammation of the gut.

Try to keep a food diary to take with you so you can have a look at the possible causes and see if there is a pattern in your eating habits and the aftermath of what you are putting in your body.
