It's time to stop comparing yourself to your friend as she will be a totally different build from you. No two women are alike so measuring yourself against her is an unfair aspiration. Even two women of the same dress size will have completely different body shapes- the number means nothing.
If your BMI is at an unhealthy level, (you can check this online) then I would suggest that you speak to your GP about healthy ways to lose weight by avoiding crash diets. They may be able to refer you to a nutritionist so you can get a diet plan and lose weight gradually without harming your body.
But if you are in the healthy range then perhaps your friend's natural weight is just a bit less than yours. In which case you might not need to do anything other than try to accept that you are different and embrace your body rather than seeing it as a bad thing.
Perhaps it's more about how you dress to flatter your figure. Why not book in with a personal shopper so you can be dressed to suit your body shape? You could start to love your figure more if you wear things that make you look good. Many of today's fashions cater for the smaller woman- so it's about being able to pick the ones that are still in vogue but are better for your shape rather than opting for something because everyone else is wearing the same style.
If you don't exercise a lot then perhaps this is something you could start? It is one way to feel better about yourself because it releases all those feel good hormones which should help you to be more confident in your own skin.
