Hi Lucy,

I have been friends with a guy for several years now. We use to help each other with each other’s relationships and advise each other when needed. The past few months we've been hanging around each other much more. I started to like him more than a friend but never said anything about it. He then revealed he likes me more than a friend, I didn't know how to react so I didn't really answer to it. I've tried to keep as friends but then I admitted I felt the same, now we talk still as friends but I don't know what to do anymore. I think we're both too shy to do anything about it.

Hi Anonymous,

Most people are put off asking someone out because they don’t know if the other person likes them back and if they will say 'yes' to a date. You both know you like each other so one of the hardest parts is over. If you both like each other then perhaps one of you needs to make the first move. If you think he’s too shy and he is what you want in a boyfriend- then it might have to be you that needs to be the bolder one here.

It is always difficult to make the transition from friends to lovers, however you both know that you get on well with one another, you have talked about previous relationships- so you should have some grasp of what each other likes and dislikes from a partner. Plus there must be physical attraction there too or you wouldn’t want to takes things further. You both have everything going for you it’s just a matter of taking that leap to get what you really want. If you wait for him to do it he might never summon up the courage to even if he wants to.
