Hi Lucy,

With family upsets and relationship not right with my husband, I feel this unhappy empty feeling. Makes no difference how busy I am just cannot feel good about myself.

It sounds like you are reacting badly to some negative things that are happening to those closest to you right now.

If keeping yourself busy is not distracting you then perhaps you could do with a friend. If your friends are not causing you any worry right now then perhaps you could turn to your closest ones for a listening ear and some support.

If you feel like you are going through this alone then maybe some outside help would encourage you to break down each upset and try to learn how to handle them more effectively or find a solution.

If your relationship is not right with your husband then perhaps look into some counselling for couples. This could help you to explore why things are not so good and how you can work together to make them better. Or could you talk to your husband yourself and try to strive to improve your home life together? Maybe he doesn’t know how much it’s getting you down?

Have you tried talking to your family? Perhaps there is someone in the family who is a peace maker and mediator- could you talk to them and find a way to put an end to these upsets or have a family meeting to discuss where you are all at and how you can be there for each other more?

If this is affecting your self-esteem then maybe some personal counselling could help- if you feel you just want to talk to someone outside of the situation- you can request this through your doctor.

Whatever you decide it sounds like you just need to talk to someone- whoever you feel most comfortable with.

The Samaritans also offer a listening service for anyone who is in distress or despair- maybe you could give them a call and talk through these feeling of emptiness you describe.
