Jean asks :

Hi Lucy,

Will I ever move house? As I want a happier life.

Our Reply

Hi Jean,

It sounds like you are looking for a fresh start by moving house.

Why do you associate happiness with moving away? Has something happened to you in your current house to make you want to leave?

Perhaps write down a list of things you need to put in place to move house. Think about money you might need for deposit, or a first month’s rent, things you will need to fill it so you have all the essentials that you might need. Then you could put a chunk of your money away each month to work towards your goal.

Have you got friends or family that you could speak to for advice or help? Perhaps find someone you trust who has already made the move and get some advice from them about what you need and how much money they spent. At least that way you can prepare yourself mentally and financially for the new move.

A fresh start can be a good move if you feel that you are stagnant where you are right now and anew environment can really help you to clear your thoughts and look forward. You seem certain that moving house will bring you a happier life, so try not to expect the happiness to come flooding over you once you move, it can be a slow transition. If your gut tells you that this is the right move, then perhaps focus on that when you do eventually leave your current home if you ever have any feelings or uncertainty. It sounds like it has is something you have craved for a while.
