Animal owners could soon be able to converse with their dogs with the use of a pet translator.

A group of futurologists at the creative company Next Big Thing believe there is a growing demand for a product that allows pet owners to actually speak to their beloved pets.

Speaking about the initiative to The Guardian, Professor Con Slobodchikoff, of North Arizona University, said: ''So many people would dearly love to talk to their dog or cat - or at least find out what they are trying to communicate. A lot of people talk to their dogs and share their innermost secrets.

''With cats, I'm not sure what they'd have to say. A lot of times it might just be 'you idiot, just feed me and leave me alone.''

The professor is fundraising to raise money to work on a pet translator device as the online retailer is already selling a Human-to-Cat Translator.
