According to police reports, the unnamed man ''let go a massive intestinal wind apparently with full intent'' directly at officers in Vienna.

The Osterreich newspaper reported that the fine was issued as the man was ''offending public decency''.

Police have pointed out that the man had been acting up before he decided to fart at them.

The Vienna force wrote on Twitter: ''Of course no one is reported for accidentally 'letting one go'''.

They added that the man had been behaving ''provocatively and uncooperatively'' during an encounter with the law earlier this month.

The offender has now learned to his cost that the Vienna police force ''prefer not to be farted at''.
