Bosses at The Hilt - which describes itself as an "immersive Viking axe-throwing experience" - say that the dangerous craze hasn't caused any accidents and are asking councillors in York to relax the rules surrounding booze at the venue.

The establishment is currently only able to serve alcohol to those who have finished contests and the police fear that the thrill-seekers could be at risk if they are under the influence while lobbying the deadly blades.

Sergeant Jackie Booth, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "Allowing alcohol before and during activity sessions could increase the risk of harm to staff, and other customers."

A council environmental health officer added: "Consuming alcohol whilst throwing axes is a risk to the public."

Councillors are set to consider the application on Monday (16.05.22).
